April’s main event will be long remembered by boxing enthusiasts. In the clash between Devin Haney (31-1, 15 KOs) and Ryan Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs), the latter was considered a significant underdog by all bookmakers’ odds. However, Garcia managed to secure victory by decision from the judges.
The bout lasted the full 12 rounds, yet it was filled with action. Devin Haney was knocked down three times – in the 7th, 10th, and 11th rounds.
At the fight’s conclusion, two judges sided with Garcia (114-110, 115-109), while one scored it a draw (112-112).
Interestingly, despite his loss, Haney may still retain his title, as Garcia failed to meet the weight limit at the weigh-in. However, according to WBC regulations, if the champion is defeated, the title should become vacant. Yet, Mauricio Sulaiman has yet to comment on the title’s status.
