Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker has signed a law to legalize sports betting, Bloomberg reports.
Massachusetts has become the 36th U.S. state to legalize sports betting. Licensed betting shops will be able to accept bets on professional and amateur sports with some restrictions:
- Online betting is allowed in the state;
- Betting on state college teams is prohibited with the exception of college tournaments;
- Only persons 21 years of age or older may accept bets;
- The tax on betting at PPP is 15%; online betting is 20%.
Massachusetts House Speaker Ron Mariano emphasized the economic benefits of legalizing betting in the state.
