Roger Federer will not play in the Australian Open but is not going to retire

Roger Federer, the former world no 1 is still recovering from a knee injury that he has been suffering from 2015. He has undergone a knee surgery recently, that became a third operation in the past 18 months.

However, despite the rumors, Federer is not planning to retire, although his recovery period will most likely prevent him from perfoming at the Australian Open.
If a forty-years old Federer misses Australian Open this year, it will his second time in the row; however, his coach Ivan Ljubicic denies a possibility of a sudden retirement. According to Ljubicic, Federer will not retire all of a sudden, and he is slowly recovering.

Although he wants to take time for the full recovery, there is a high chance tennis fans will see Federer again next year.
In 2021, Federer has taken part in only thirteen matches and finished his last season before a long-time break with a devastating loss to world No. 75 Hubert Hurkacz. It became the worst Federer’s result since 2014.
