Liverpool FC thrashed Manchester United 7-0 on Matchday 26 of the English Premier League.
The encounter took place on Sunday, March 5, at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool. Cody Gakpo (43rd and 50th minutes), Darwin Nunez (47, 75) and Mohamed Salah (66, 83) scored the goals, with Roberto Firmino (88) also scoring.
Liverpool earned the biggest victory over Manchester United in the history of meetings between these rivals. In 1895 Liverpool beat Newton Heath, as Manchester United was called until 1902, with a score of 7-1.
After that match, Egyptian Mohamed Salah, who scored his 128th and 129th goals in the English league, became the top scorer in Merseyside history, surpassing club legend Robbie Fowler.
Manchester United suffered their biggest defeat in the EPL. They were 7-0 to Wolverhampton in 1931, Aston Villa in 1930, and Blackburn in 1926. However, these defeats happened before 1992, when the English Premier League was founded. Thus, today’s defeat to Liverpool was the biggest in the history of the English Premier League.
Manchester United is third in the EPL standings this season, with 49 points after 25 matches. Liverpool is in fifth place (42). Arsenal is the leader (63).
