FIFA has threatened to suspend Brazil from tournaments due to interference in the elections of the president of the Brazilian Football Confederation.
According to sources, FIFA warned in a letter addressed to one of Brazil’s football leaders that CBF could be suspended if the organization holds quick elections to replace Ednaldo Rodrigues as president.
In early December, a court in Rio de Janeiro removed Rodrigues from his position due to violations during the 2022 elections. Last week, Brazil’s two highest courts confirmed this decision.
As per the Rio de Janeiro court’s decision, the head of Brazil’s highest sports court, Jose Perdiz, was appointed as acting head of CBF and responsible for conducting the elections for a new president within 30 working days.
