Caesars Sportsbook in Windsor, Ontario, was the first full-service sportsbook to launch in Ontario with its grand opening on Wednesday.
Grant Fuhr, a former NHL goaltender who is enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame, helped cut the ribbon and placed the first bet on the Jacksonville Jaguars to defeat the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday.
Caesars Windsor President Kevin Laforet stated in a statement, “Today’s grand opening is a tribute to our community partners, team members, and guests who have all waited patiently for this day.” “We welcome the opportunity to give visitors and sports fans a world-class Caesars experience.”
After years of sports bettors only having access to parlays through provincial federal lotteries, the Canadian federal government authorized single-game wagering in June of 2021. The province of Ontario was the first to allow and regulate single-game wagering, with mobile betting apps launching in April.
