Medvedev has collected most top trophies within last two years, but the ATP Finals in Torino turned out to be beyond his compass. His opponent, the Olympics winner Alexander Zverev is considered one of the world strongest tennis players, too, but Medvedev’s defeat became a huge disappointment and kind of a shock for his fans.
The World no. 3 Zverev is now put high hopes on: his performance this year proved he has all chances to go futher and gain the World no. 1 next year. The current season brought him the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, and 59 wins on tour, one more than Medvedev. The next Zverev’s aim is the Grand Slam trophy that he missed at the U.S. Open final last year.
The match between Zverev and Medvedev went rather smoothly for the German, while Medvedev was obviously lacking emotional and physical stability. The final score is 6:4, 6:4. Medvedev commented on his loss in his Instagram post, where he claimed he was still proud of his results this year, and would start to prepare for the Davis Cup.
