Steven Bergwijn was acquired by Ajax from Tottenham for $26.4 million on a five-year contract.
Spurs and Ajax secured an agreement on the 24-year-deal old’s after the Dutch champions’ original £20 million offer was rejected in June.
The Netherlands international Bergwijn had desired a transfer to Ajax for over a month after falling out of favor with Tottenham manager Antonio Conte. The 24-year-old also participated in Ajax’s youth program.
He scored eight goals in 83 appearances for Tottenham after joining in January 2020 from PSV Eindhoven.
Alfred Schreuder, the head coach of Ajax, remarked, “It is indicative of Steven’s ambition that he chose to make the step to Ajax. He is a player with many qualities. He has enormous drive and is also very goal-oriented. Of course, I am happy that we were able to sign him, he adds new quality to our team.”
