Fury, who is undefeated, defends his WBC title against his countryman after destroying Deontay Wilder in their trilogy fight in Las Vegas in October.
Fury was eyeing a unification bout with Oleksandr Usyk, the guy who now owns all of the other heavyweight championships, but both Whyte and Anthony Joshua declined step-aside money. With Usyk and Joshua scheduled to fight again this summer, WBC interim champion Whyte, 34, was given the opportunity to meet Fury, 33, and earn his first crack at a world championship.
Whyte has not fought since last March, when he defeated Alexander Povetkin in their rematch. Now, the two local rivals will square off in an epic clash in London.
