Dominic Thiem lost to Lorenzo Sonego in the first round of the Miami Masters, 7-6(7), 6-2.
He dropped a set ball on the tiebreak, leading 6-5.
In 2023 Thiem played 10 matches (including qualifying in Adelaide) and had only one win, over Alex Molcan in Buenos Aires. The Austrian now has five losses in a row.
Thiem, who played in Miami on a wild card, is ranked No. 106 this week.
Now Thiem plans to play in Estoril. He’s currently second on the reserve list.
