Russian and Belarus athletes were banned from the Boston Marathon 2022. This measure is officially announced at the event’s site. The ban doesn’t fall to the runners from Russia and Belarus who don’t live in their home countries. They are allowed to perform at the Marathon under the neutral flag.
“Like so many around the world we are horrified and outraged by what we have seen and learned from the reporting in Ukraine’ Tom Grilk, the chief executive of the Boston Athletic Association that organizes the marathon. ‘We believe that running is a global sport, and as such, we must do what we can to show our support to the people of Ukraine”.
The Grilk’s statement also mentions that the Association won’t acknowledge Russian and Belarus flags until the further reconsideration is possible.
The Boston Marathon has existed since 1897. The nearest race on April 18 will host approximately 30,000 athletes.
