On Thursday, June 29, the National Football League (NFL) disqualified four players for violating the league’s policy on gambling. Isaiah Rodgers and Rashad Berry from the Indianapolis Colts, and free agent Demetrius Taylor, have been suspended indefinitely for placing bets on NFL games during the previous season.
In light of the league’s disciplinary committee’s decision, the Colts will terminate the contracts of Rodgers and Berry.
A less severe punishment was handed to Tennessee Titans’ offensive lineman, Nicholas Petty-Frere, who will be suspended for only the first six games of the upcoming NFL season for his gambling activities. He is eligible to participate in all off-season activities, including preseason games.
The NFL’s gambling policy prohibits players, coaches, as well as league and team officials, from placing bets on championship games or directing others to place bets on their behalf.
