The MLBPA did not accept the MLB proposal to increase salaries for team members playing for more than two years, with the best players having even more significant wages with the new performance-based bonuses. On Tuesday, the MLB came up with a new proposal which was basically the initiative of the MLBPA.
The league’s proposal implies a bonus pool for rewarding the top pre-arbitration players. With these bonuses, the salaries can raise up to four times depending on players’ performance and awards. Besides, the basic salary is suggested to be increased too; according to the League, it should provide young players with a better income before they qualify for arbitration.
The whole deal is supposed to create additional motivation and support for young prospective players and provide them with early-career bonuses and competitive salaries that will raise to at least 15%.
