The latest MBL club owners’ meeting session was dedicated to negotiation on the purchase of the New York Mets by Steven Cohen. The price of the deal was 2,475 billion dollars. According to the agreement conditions, Cohen will receive ninety-five percent control of the club. The sources say the management of all League teams approved this arrangement.
What is more, the New York city council also viewed the deal in a favorable light. Before it was stated that they had doubts regarding the new ownership. Firstly, the selling of the Mets could not have proceeded without the preliminary coordination with the government executive of New York as the regional government is the owner of the City Field ballpark and the surrounding grounds. In addition, Cohen was not considered a trusted person; according to some sources, he had some legal violations.
To overcome the obstacles on the way to purchasing the Mets, Cohen made a donation of 17,5 million dollars to small businesses and charity organizations.
The selling of Mets is officially confirmed and made Cohen the richest club owner in the Major Basketball League. It is not clear at the moment, how this affects the team; according to the latest reports, he is determined to focus on the analytics part of the management first.
