Pele, a three-time world champion with the Brazilian national soccer team, died at the age of 82. It was announced by his daughter Kelly Cristina Nascimento on Instagram.
“Everything we have is because of you. We love you endlessly. Rest in peace,” she wrote.
Pele is the only three-time world champion with the Brazilian national team in history, having spent most of his club career with Santos.
Pele is in the Guinness Book of Records for the most goals in his professional career – according to some sources, he has 1,281 goals under his belt.
Last year Pele was diagnosed with a colon tumor. In late November 2022, he was hospitalized and given palliative care as the treatment was no longer working.
