Mexican Saul “Canelo” Alvarez was defeated by Russian Dmitry Bivol.
Their fight was the main event of their boxing night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
The fight was scheduled for 12 rounds and went the whole distance. Bivol, in spite of his underdog status, fought tooth and nail against the Mexican and won, winning by unanimous decision.
Alvarez, who is the undisputed super welterweight champion, did not manage to take the WBA Super light heavyweight title from the Russian. This defeat was Alvarez’s second in the pros at 57 wins. Bivol won for the 20th time and didn’t lose any fight yet.
It should be noted, that the third fight between “Canelo” and Kazakhstan’s Gennady Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs), was scheduled in case of the Mexican’s victory over Bivol, is now in question.
