Spreadex is a platform combining financial exchange trading and sports betting products. Our Spreadex review will touch only the sports betting aspect and will speak about available sports to wager on, markets, bonuses, odds, customer support, banking methods, fees, betting limits, and other points we find essential about the sports betting website. At the end of the article, we will give our unbiased opinion about Spreadex and explain our recommendations.
Overall Info
Spreadex betting platform is located on the same website as the trading exchange: you must select ‘Sports’ on the main page and be transferred to the online sportsbook. The company mainly focuses on British sports bettors and traders but provides its services worldwide, with a pretty extensive list of restricted countries, though. Among the regions from which you can not access Spreadex are Australia, Austria, India, Denmark, the United States, Sudan, Poland, Russia, Japan, Italy, and more.
The website has an English or Danish version and contains several sports disciplines to wager on in different ways, sports betting blog with various articles with spread and fixed-odds betting tips, news, and reviews, a link to the customer support center, a live chat, and a few other useful links. The overall look of all sportsbook pages is not typical for a modern bookmaker, but we will discuss it further in more detail.
Spreadex History
Spreadex was founded in 1999 in Great Britain when trading was riding the wave of popularity. It operated as an offline trading office and gained a pretty large local customer base. In 2006, Spreadex went online and added spread sports betting to its overall offer. In four years, the product was updated again, and customers got access to traditional sports betting at fixed odds. To develop further, Spreadex acquired several companies on their bankruptcy stage; among such companies were Cantor Index, specializing in trading spread bets, Global Spreads, and Extrabet, an online sportsbook.
At the moment, Spreadex is stable trading and sports betting business; it has not reached top positions among its competitors but still remains a reputable and recognizable brand. Throughout its existence, Spreadex several times became an award-winning organization in various nominations, including the Best Customer Service, Top-100 Fastest Growing Businesses in the UK, The Best Spread Betting Broker at Good Money Guide Awards, and City of London Wealth Management Awards, and more.
Bookmaker License
Spreadex has obtained its set of licenses in the United Kingdom. As a combined platform for two types of sports betting, it is approved by two regulatory organs:
- The Financial Conduct Authority: a regulator of financial companies in the United Kingdom; licenses and regulates spread betting services;
- United Kingdom Gambling Commission: fully covers and legitimates the services of the regular Spreadex sportsbook providing fixed-odds betting markets.
We have checked if the licenses are active and valid at the time of writing the review and made sure that Spreadex is regulated and does not have any license issues.
Creating a Spreadex Account
Registering at Spreadex is easy: the procedure is very standard and does not require much time. To start with, press the red ‘Join’ button at the top upper corner of the page to open the application form. The first step involves creating a unique username and a password, indicating your email address and the residence country, and accepting General Terms and Conditions.
The next stage is about your personal details, e.g., date of birth, phone number, residence address with a postcode, and a secret question — for additional security. After you have filled in all required information, simply press the Join Spreadex button, verify your email using the link in the letter Spreadex sends to you, and start your exchange trading or sports betting experience.
The whole process does not take more than a couple of minutes, so the absence of quicker methods like registration via social networks is not a con. The registration gives you access to a single fixed-odds betting and spread betting account.
Spreadex Sportsbook Review
When you open the Spreadex online sportsbook, its look immediately surprises you with a very old-fashioned design — at least, the one you do not normally expect when you enter the website of a modern award-winning company. It may take time to get used to the layout and start navigating between the tabs quickly. The main page shows you the upcoming events and top promotions for fixed odds and spread betting; on the left, you can find home pages for each sports discipline to read more details about betting types and options.
There are less than twenty sports to wager on; the list has an evident sense of a British-facing bookmaker, as the prevalent number of options are offered for Soccer and Horse Racing.
Besides, you can find betting markets for Tennis, Cricket, eSports, Darts, and American sports: Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Rugby.
There are also several disciplines, but nothing that you could call niche sports: the most specific options to bet on are the Australian Rules and Virtual Sports, but the rest of the list is very traditional.
Pre Match Line
As we have already mentioned, the Spreadex sportsbook is pretty complicated, and it is also connected with the specifics of a spread betting firm offering fixed odds. When you select a discipline, for instance, Soccer (it is titled Football at Spreadex), you have the list of all available events opened in the middle of the page. You can immediately opt for a preferable way of betting: Fixed Odds or Spread betting. The latter one can include a pretty wide range of markets; for instance, a Soccer match can have Total Goals, Shirt Numbers, Bookings, Corners, Match Performance, Corners Squared, Penalty Performance, and more.
While the spread betting variant has pretty limited betting options, e.g., Sell or Buy, and will look familiar to the experienced traders, the fixed odds sportsbook’s offer may vary depending on the selected event. The top covered sports include Soccer, American Sports, Tennis, and MMA; the top sports matches can involve up to five hundred markets, while the others do not usually offer at least ten.
When you select a particular game, for instance, Everton vs. Burnley within the Premier League, the first thing you see above the match coupon is the table with the betting stats and league table, showing the last five or ten results of previous games between two teams.
Among the markets can be the following ones:
- Corners and Cards: Over/Under;
- Goals: Over/Under, Total Goals, Total Goals Bands, First Teams To Score, Team 1/2 Total Goals, Odd/Even Number of Goals, Last Team To Score, etc.;
- Halves: Half-Time Result, Highest Scoring Half, Goals in Both Halves, and more.
Besides, there are some additional betting options that we will speak about further in this review. The overall impression: the sportsbook has decent coverage of the top popular events within the top requested sports disciplines and is generally comparable with good stable European bookmakers. Some may find it disappointing to see only a few events in the eSports section, but you can still wager on the whole game or different maps if we check out, for instance, fixed odds for Counter-Strike: GO Elisa International.
Live Betting
The number of live events is pretty wide: there can be about a hundred matches to wager on in the in-play betting mode per week. Spreadex offers live markets for most of its sports from the entire list, but the deepest coverage still falls to Soccer, with various markets mainly including the ones related to the Goals and Halves, but also padded with some more exquisite Props.
Like in the pre-game section, you can switch between traditional and spread betting.
The overall Spreadex live line quality is pretty mediocre and lacks diversity in most sports except Soccer. While most sportsbooks are struggling to present superior offers for live betting, Spreadex is obviously not so interested in attracting more recreational bettors preferring to maintain the best of their offer focused on trading. Among the features, we can note the live streaming service available for many tournaments; you can sort the live events by the broadcast availability to exclude the ones without such an option from the entire list. If the live stream is not available for watching right on the website, Spreadex sometimes offers you links to external platforms.
Horse Racing
When you hover a cursor over the Horse Racing tab, you are immediately offered to choose one of the two options from a drop-down list: All Races and Aggregate Markets.
The All Races section is more familiar to a recreational punter: you can choose between current and upcoming races and select British, Irish, North American, South African, French, and Australian racing events to wager on in the live or pre-match formats. All British and Irish race tracks involve live streaming of the races, but the broadcasting is also available for many events from the other regions too. The number of fixed-odds markets may seem pretty limited for those who are used to classical British or American sportsbooks, so you will barely find more than Win/Place bets, but the spread betting options can be pretty impressive.
Spreadex Odds
Spreadex features their in-house oddsmakers team, so you are guaranteed to have high-quality odds for most markets. The average margin is 7% which is higher than many leading European sportsbooks offer, but it can be lower for the range of sports, for instance, Soccer or Ice Hockey. Live betting margin can reach 10%, which is competitive enough compared to the opponents.
Customer Service
Spreadex customer service has three divisions. Before you contact the agents, you must select a department: Sports Trading Room, Financial Trading Room, or Customer Services. Each department has a phone number and an email address; besides, you can opt for the Live Chat, located in the upper right corner of each page.
Although Spreadex support team has overall good reviews, there is a slight con: you can not reach it 24/7: the working hours are from 8 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., which might become an inconvenience if an urgent matter emerges. Still, you can try to find an answer to your question at the Help Desk containing various articles about payment, account, and technical issues. Finally, a sports blog and a spread betting glossary are there to help, too.
Spreadex Bonuses
As a company that has a majority of the customers holding retail investor accounts, Spreadex is not much interested in creating generous promo campaigns to attract recreational sports bettors or bonus hunters like standard online sportsbooks tend to do via various lucrative offers. Spreadex bonuses are limited by several bonuses for spread betting and fixed-odds betting and a referral program. Sometimes, you can opt for seasonal promotions and receive more special offers by signing up for the mailing list, but don’t expect a huge variety of promotions like you may use to see at large classical sportsbooks.
Bonus type | Bonus conditions |
---|---|
Sign-up Bonus | Create a Spreadex account and make your first fixed odds bet of at least £10; the minimum qualifying odds are 1:2. You will receive a free Total goals spread bet of £5. The next fixed odds bet made under the same conditions also brings a £5 free bet. The next five bets can bring from one to three £5 spread bets at once; the maximum bonus amount is £35. Besides, new accounts are eligible for a cashback on spread betting stakes within the first 28 days. The maximum cashback amount is £300. |
Spread Free Bets | Make three sports spread bets on the eligible markets; the fourth spread bet will be spread-free. The terms and conditions may vary so we recommend checking the full rules under the Promotions tab at Spreadex. |
Referral Program | Send your referral account number to your friend; if they place five sport spread bets at stakes from £2, you can claim a £100 Total Goals spread bet. |
Deposit and Withdrawal
The payment options are a bit limited, especially for British citizens who are not allowed to top up their deposit with credit cards according to a recent law. Still, there is a range of options you can choose from, and they include the following:
- UK Debit Cards: Visa, Switch, and Maestro;
- International Credit Cards: Visa and Mastercard;
- Bank Transfers;
- Cheque;
- Direct Debit.
You can see deposit and withdrawal limits in the Cashier section of your account.
Credit and debit card payments can be made online or with the help of a customer support agent by phone. Withdrawals are processed within 1-3 working days, and, according to most members’ feedback, there are no delays normally.
Special Betting Options
As our review is dedicated to an unusual bookmaker, most Spreadex sports betting features can be called ‘special.’ The fact you can not just wager at fixed odds but also earn much by using an alternative option called Sports Spread Betting makes the overall experience way different from the one you can get at a regular sportsbook. Still, if we focus on the Spreadex product dedicated to classical bookmaker odds, there are still curious things to try. Among them are the following extra betting services:
- BetBuilder: an option allowing you to combine several markets into one bet with a higher payout. Spreadex offers BetBuilder for most events in their fixed-odds sportsbook;
- name: You can suggest your own markets and odds via Twitter by publishing them under the #NameIt hashtag; if Spreadex accepts it, you will find the market in a dedicated tab in a match coupon;
- Sports Betting Blog: a large collection of betting tips, instructions, reviews, and other useful information for traders and recreational bettors.
Mobile Apps
Spreadex features native apps for Apple and Android platforms where they combine all services you can find on the website. The apps allow you to use convenient mobile spread or fixed odds betting applying Face ID and Touch ID. Spreadex mobile app’s layout provides bettors with quick access to all available markets, promotions, customer service, and cashiers. Unlike many traditional online sportsbooks, Spreadex can be proud with high (almost five-star) ratings at both application stores and works on its apps to deliver a smooth unavailable experience for mobile phones and tablets. In the table below, we provide you with the specifications of both apps; all data is valid at the time of creating the review (August 2021).

Our Verdict
Spreadex is a decent financial institution with a solid reputation and can be a good alternative to classical, familiar sports betting. Still, if you want to bet on sports in a classical manner with fixed odds offered by a bookmaker, Spreadex is still a nice option with a good variety of markets for the top popular events and a horsebook. Although it does not offer anything extraordinary in terms of fixed-odds betting, it is at least a reliable and reputable place that will perfectly suit recreational and beginning punters. Staying a pretty unique product, Spreadex does not seem to develop their sports betting offer, maintaining the main focus on trading services, and it can be a perfect solution for traders who want to diversify their experience and enlarge their possible profits by switching between financial and sports markets.
Spreadex is a British-based financial company offering various services for recreational sports bettors and professional traders. Among its products is the financial spread betting platform, spread betting on various sports including Virtual sports offer, and a traditional online sports betting service with pre-game and live wagering markets.
Spreadex trading platform and sports betting site are not approved by any US gambling authorities and thus can not be regarded as a legal sports betting or trading platform on the US territory. The company does not accept US customers, so if you need a combination of a trading exchange, spread betting, and standard betting offer available for legal experience within the USA, you will definitely want to look elsewhere.
Spreadex has two licenses covering its spread betting product and a fixed-odds sportsbook. The first license is issued by the Financial Conduct Authority, and the traditional sportsbook is approved and regulated by the United Kingdom Gambling Commission.
Spreadex allows you to request payouts via standard methods, including UK debit cards, international credit cards, Bank Transfers, and Checks. At the moment, no e-wallets and cryptocurrencies are accepted.
Spreadex offers an account-opening bonus for all new customers after they place their first fixed odds bet of at least £10. The bonus is a free £5 Total Goals spread bet. The second fixed odds bet is also rewarded with a £5 Total Goals spread bet. The maximum amount of bonus free bets is £25, so the bonus is given for the first five bets. The next bets can bring from one to £25 free spread bets depending on the bets’ value.
