Australian Alexander Volkanovski has been named the best fighter in the UFC in 2022.
The 34-year-old fighter defeated South Korea’s Jung Chan-sung and American Max Holloway this year. Volkanovski is the current champion of the American promotion in the featherweight division.
Second place went to Brazilian Alex Pereira and third to Russian Islam Makhachev.
Volkanovski is scheduled to fight Makhachev on February 12 at UFC 284 in Perth, Australia. The Australian will move up to lightweight to try to take the championship belt from Islam.
Interestingly, because of his Macedonian and Greek origins, Volkanovski uses the nickname “The Great” in reference to Alexander the Great, claiming that he was of mixed Macedonian and Greek descent, just like himself.
