In Sao Paulo (Brazil), at age 86 the legendary Brazilian boxer Eder Jofre died.
Jofre represented Brazil at the 1956 Olympics and competed in the professional ring from 1957-1976.
In November 1960, he won the vacant world featherweight title, and in 1973, he became the featherweight champion.
Eder finished his career with an outstanding record of 72-2-4, 50 KOs. Remarkably, both of his losses (on points) came at the hands of Japanese Masahiko Harada.
In 1992, Jofre was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
